THE SOUND ENGINEERING MODULE
The Sound Engineering Module introduces students to the large and diverse subject of sound engineering, specifically sound engineering for theatre. While an online course cannot replace the many hours of ?hands-on? practical experience that a full time student would receive in a college, the online syllabus will give the student the necessary information to design & operate the sound for a modest performance in a professional environment. In this module the following topics are introduced:
Sound: the raw material and its qualities
Conversion of sound waves into analogous electrical signals
The Mixing Desk with the use of the Creative Futures
virtual mixing desk in Second Life
Basic editing skills
Microphones and how to choose the correct microphone for the job in hand
Pre-production, technical rehearsal and performance and the work a sound engineer will be expected to carry out in the run up to and the opening night of a new show including multi-track recording, communications systems, sound design, sound checks, cue sheets and cueing from computers.
You can get a taste by following the first chapter of each module.
